Hippie Day was a fun, exciting and educational way for Mrs. Garton and her APUSH classes to recreate a famous 1960’s Woodstock event. The students learned the beliefs behind the vocal minority movement, major successes and highlights and failures. On Hippie Day, which other students may have seen around campus, the participants dressed up with clothing that would accompany the “hippie” era. They also discussed music, politics, and major movements of this time period.
“My favorite parts of Hippie Day are all of the students dressed up and really being able to relax and listen to music in a very face-paced content driven class. Music is a very important part of history to me,” says Mrs. Garton, who was in charge of this event.Mrs.Garton hopes that her students learned the importance of this activity.
