With accomplishments including a 36-19 record in two seasons, a Sarasota Baseball Classic Spring Break Championship, and the Hawks first ever District Championship in 2013, Viera High School’s Varsity Baseball Team has big shoes to fill. In full swing, the season inspires an uncontainable excitement.
“Preparing for the season took a lot of work,” senior pitcher and third basemen Connor Hermida recalls about pre-season/off field training. In addition to after school workouts until 6 p.m., the boys woke up before daylight and trained for hours during the entirety of December. “It made us stronger and definitely proved our commitment,” Hermida concludes.
Knowing there’s plenty of competition and a challenging schedule this season, the boys are preparing for the grueling battles that are bound to emerge throughout the season. “Melbourne is hands down our toughest competition this year. It’s a big time Brevard County match up, with two powerhouses that hate each other,” senior Kevin Kostyk explains.
With high hopes for the season, the players aspire to earn the title of State Champions. The hard work and dedication of each team member has become second nature, making the dream attainable. Having only just begun, the season holds many opportunities for fellow Hawks to support the Varsity Baseball Team.
