The St.Baldrick’s Foundation has been providing high-impact clinical trials for rare diseases for the past fourteen years. Over the last few years this outstanding foundation has placed more children on different studies to get the process rate higher. While increasing the likelihood for a child to receive the best treatment plan in a hospital close to their home, this administration also helps to improve the lives of the fighters and survivors by making this a worldwide organization.
Viera High School’s junior, Amelia Giannasi, participated in the St.Baldrick’s event. Most students would never let the thought of shaving their head cross their mind, but Amelia is not like most students. Saturday, March 15th, Amelia made a bold move to shave all her hair off in support of all the children who have cancer. “It was incredible. It’s difficult to put such an experience into words! Magical is a suitable word, but even that does not fully describe it,” explains Amelia.
“I had never really thought about it before. Learning about St.Baldrick’s was the first I had ever heard of events like this, so this type of thing never crossed my mind. I’m always looking for new ways to help people when I get the chance,” says Amelia. Unlike Locks of Love, St.Baldrick’s does not collect the hair, it is more of a support event by shaving off all the hair on your head. Amelia was thrilled to explain that she is planning on saving the hair that they shaved off and plans on sending it in to a separate foundation that can make use of her hair.
