ISIS has become a major controversy in society today. Some wonder why no one has done anything to stop the terrorist group. The United States of America, and its president, Barack Obama, has stated numerous times that actions must be taken to stop ISIS. Yet nothing has been done, making its citizens and its government tense. Truly, if Obama wanted to stop ISIS, he would have already done something.
Obama has stated numerous times that the U.S. government will not stand for what ISIS is doing. Obama said, “I have made it clear that we will hunt down terrorists who threaten our country wherever they are. This is a core principle of my presidency: if you threaten America, you will find no safe haven.” In fact, Obama has stood with that statement, only once though. In 2011, the U.S. tracked down and killed Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden, but since then, no military forces have been sent to the Middle East to combat new terrorist threats. Even other government officials like Frank Wolf have noticed this, “For too long the Obama administration and Congress have been debating whether or not authority exists for the action to address this threat… he cannot we cannot continue operating on outdated authorities passed 13 years ago; it is time for this congress to vote.”
Although, ISIS is where the problem is really at. According to USA Today, the group has killed approximately 9,347civilians in only the first 8 months of 2014. They say that they do these things for a greater life for Muslims. So far, they have allowed around 1,000 Turks to join, and there are even people leaving their homes in Western countries to join ISIS. ISIS has carried out attacks deliberately and systematically targeting civilians and civilian infrastructures with the intention of killing and wounding civilians. ISIS has even targeted American companies such as twitter when they hacked it and stated, “You (the U.S.) started this failed war. We told you from the beginning its not your war, but you didn’t get it.”
When asked what he thought about how President Obama was handling the ISIS situation, Mr. Brand, a teacher at Viera High School and a former marine, he claims “We should be sending troops overseas to combat the terrorists and protect America and its citizens and corporations from the ISIS threat.”
One can easily see that ISIS is a growing threat and if Obama wants to stop them, he needs to act now before they grow even larger. If Obama doesn’t act quick enough, ISIS could be targeting American soil next.
